Trimina – 304 Stainless Steel 12v MR11 Plug & Play IP67 3 Window Multi Recessed Light With 68mm Bezel
The Trimina is a compact 12v recessed light and houses a replaceable MR11 lamp. The domed Stainless Steel bezel has 3 machined
windows creating a multi-directional recessed light with no glare or light pollution.
The domed bezel protects the 30mm diameter glass lens. The casing secures with 3 socket screws for a full watertight seal.
Changing the lamp is also a very simple task. Importantly, this IP67 in-ground light withstands harsher weather conditions.
These include rain and strong jets of water, as well as temporary submergence due to heavy rainfall. The 12v recessed
light simply slots into a drilled installation hole. It mounts on to virtually any surface, including decking, walls,
steps, well drained gravel and paths. Despite its’ size, the Trimina is suitable to walk over.
The Trimina forms part of the low voltage VERSA Plug & Play Range (2 pin) – the safest and easiest way to install garden
lighting. With 12v plug & play systems, no wiring is required, the 2 pin plug pushes into the female socket of a
splitter / transformer and is secured in place with the threaded cap. To install a 12v plug & play system, simply
plug the correct wattage 12v Transformer into a waterproof / internal mains socket, connect the output cable to a splitter
and in turn to the low voltage Trimina fittings installed.
Lamp colour (Kelvins)
The colour of a lamp is defined as a measurement called kelvins. A standard GLS light bulb in your house would be 2,700 kelvins
which is in the warm colour spectrum and a lamp with 5,000 kelvins would be at the very cold white spectrum. Getting
the right colour temperature of a lamp does matter as the warm colour wavelength helps to soften the tone of the area
and gives a warm soft relaxed feel and ideal for colourful flower beds and rockery areas especially with wooden bark
and at the other end of the scale a 4,000 to 5,000 kelvin lamp colour would be used against a light background such as
white walls or to accentuate grey blueish foliage in shrubs and small trees. When you buy a new, energy efficient
bulb, keep your application and colour scheme in mind and make sure to buy the bulb with a colour temperature to match.
Installation 12v
Choosing the style of a product is only part of the equation you must also think of where that product will be used and how
it will be installed. All exterior lighting products on our web site have an IP rating appropriate to each light fitting
and its intended application and is therefore fit for purpose. Water ingress is the enemy for outdoor lighting and the
products supplied are only as good as the installation. The weakest point is always cable joints. All joints must be
made 100% watertight and this can be done using IP68 cable connectors and/or waterproof junction boxes which are then
filled with a re-enterable liquid gel mix. All joints where possible should be made above ground for easy access and
reduced water ingress. When installing ground buried lights adequate drainage systems should be put in place especially
in clay-based soil areas. If possible, use ground surface spike lights rather than a buried light. Care must be
taken with the cable runs and not to install transformers more than 30 metres away from the furthest fitting to avoid
any voltage drop. Cabling should be 2 core Rubber HO5RN-F or HO7RN-F and not PVC. PVC leads to capillary action over
time especially with UV degradation. Always check the correct type of transformer you need for your fittings. We recommend
wiring in parallel with Toroidal AC and LED DC drivers. But when using Milliamp mA LED drivers, they should always be
wired in series. Plug and Play kits are simply a case of daisy chaining the fittings via plug and play junction boxes,
connectors and extension cables using a 2-pin plug arrangement. These Plug and Play fittings should only be used for
small domestic projects due to voltage drop over 5 metres.
All exterior lights must be installed by a certified NIC EIC electrician and should be signed off by an electrician with
Part P certification. There are a selection of waterproof jointing kits and boxes available on this web site.
