We were aware of a review where some waterproof fittings were purchased to replace some driveway lighting which had constantly tripped the circuit breaker due to the poor previous installation of some junction boxes letting in water. This joint was very easy to fit paying attention to the sequence of parts and ensuring not to leave out the sealing washers! That installation meant the electrician was confident no further problems would arise due to the solid feel of the product and the fact it is a very good IP68 connector and has not experienced any further tripped circuits.
The weakest part of any exterior lighting project is the installation. If done correctly by a fully qualified NIC EIC approved electrician who has experience in exterior installations then there should be no problems. However there are electricians who are not experienced and do not make a 100% waterproof connection of all cable joints which can lead to bigger problems in the future especially if the cable have been buried. It is also important to allow adequate drainage for water under each installed light fitting and this is especially so if you have a mainly clay based soil bed.
All the light fittings have an IP rating and to keep that rating all joints must be clean and water tight.
