Brass Spot Light, the 12v Director garden uplight is crafted from solid brass and has a decorative rustic bronze finish.
An extra durable polycarbonate ground spike with 4 fins and anchor is also supplied with this spot light, providing added
stability when fixed into soft ground. It is ideal for up lighting plants, shrubs, trees, statues or ornaments, and adds a
classically elegant look to a garden.
The fitting comes as standard with the 50mm polycarbonate finned spike mount. The drop down options include the Brass surface
mount, brass spike mount and tree bracket. The price will change when you select those.
In addition if you wish to add the extension rods they are shown as related products below and also at the
check out.
Easily adjustable by a serrated clamp joint, this spotlight can be angled in various positions up to 180° (vertically). The
tubular body, convex lens and integrated glare shield results in the light shining in a narrow, concentrated beam, ideal
for illuminating individual focal points. This classic, low voltage bronze garden spike light has an MR16 fitting, which
is easily installed and replaced.
To remove the main body twist anti-clockwise to release, and replace and twist clockwise to secure. This simple method means
no external screws are required which not only makes maintenance easier, it also adds to the streamline and classic design
quality. We recommend the use of a 12 volt LED MR16 which has a longer life span, and uses less energy compared to
halogen MR16s.
Copper Grease is recommended to facilitate the removal of the main body of all Charleston Cobra Spot Lights when changing
lamps.
The Charleston Director forms part of the VERSA Plug & Play Range. For ease of installation, a 2 pin adaptor plugs
directly into a plug and play Transformer, or any Versa connectors, meaning no wiring is required. If the adaptor is not required
then this can simply be cut off and the wire stripped to create a normal connection via a junction box. VERSA Plug &
Play connectors are also compatible with other plug and play systems such as Techmar.
Lamp Colour (Kelvins)
The colour of a lamp is defined as a measurement called kelvins. A standard GLS light bulb in your house would be 2,700 kelvins
which is in the warm colour spectrum and a lamp with 5,000 kelvins would be at the very cold white spectrum. Getting
the right colour temperature of a lamp does matter as the warm colour wavelength helps to soften the tone of the area
and gives a warm soft relaxed feel and ideal for colourful flower beds and rockery areas especially with wooden bark
and at the other end of the scale a 4,000 to 5,000 kelvin lamp colour would be used against a light background such as
white walls or to accentuate grey blueish foliage in shrubs and small trees. When you buy a new, energy efficient
bulb, keep your application and colour scheme in mind and make sure to buy the bulb with a colour temperature to match.
12v Installation
Choosing the style of a product is only part of the equation you must also think of where that product will be used and how
it will be installed. All exterior lighting products on our web site have an IP rating appropriate to each light fitting
and its intended application and is therefore fit for purpose. Water ingress is the enemy for outdoor lighting and the
products supplied are only as good as the installation. The weakest point is always cable joints. All joints must be
made 100% watertight and this can be done using IP68 cable connectors and/or waterproof junction boxes which are then
filled with a re-enterable liquid gel mix. All joints where possible should be made above ground for easy access and
reduced water ingress. When installing ground buried lights adequate drainage systems should be put in place especially
in clay-based soil areas. If possible, use ground surface spike lights rather than a buried light. Care must be
taken with the cable runs and not to install transformers more than 30 metres away from the furthest fitting to avoid
any voltage drop. Cabling should be 2 core Rubber HO5RN-F or HO7RN-F and not PVC. PVC leads to capillary action over
time especially with UV degradation. Always check the correct type of transformer you need for your fittings. We recommend
wiring in parallel with Toroidal AC and LED DC drivers. But when using Milliamp mA LED drivers, they should always be
wired in series. Plug and Play kits are simply a case of daisy chaining the fittings via plug and play junction boxes,
connectors and extension cables using a 2-pin plug arrangement.
All exterior lights must be installed by a certified NIC EIC electrician and should be signed off by an electrician with
Part P certification. There are a selection of waterproof jointing kits and boxes available on this web site.
